Beginning April 1, 2020, Indian EB-5 investors will have to pay an additional $50,000 for their visa due to a 5% tax on remittances out of India.
Under the EB-5 Program, qualified investors must fund an escrow account with the program’s minimum investment requirement of $900,000 for a targeted employment area investment as part of their I-526 Immigrant Petition by Alien Investor.
According to media reports, investors who wish to pay the $50,000 at a later step in the process rather than at the source may want to look into moving their funds to the a United States escrow account prior to when the rule goes into effect on April 1, 2020.
Indian EB-5 investors who move their funds to a U.S. escrow account do not necessarily have to invest in EB-5 immediately. They may be able to still take their time to conduct due diligence and carefully plan their next steps.
