Country case mortality rates, Covid-19 case testing, healthcare institution quality and technological advancements, access to drug treatment and more may be motivating foreign nationals to looking at immigrating to the U.S. through the EB-5 Program.

Lower country case mortality rate:

According to John Hopkins University & Medicine: Coronavirus Resource Center, data shows some countries’ case fatality rate as high as 15.9%. Despite the high number of confirmed cases, compared to other countries, the U.S. case-fatality rate is much lower.

More access to testing:

The U.S. has a high confirmed case number, but it also does more diagnostic testing than any other country. Wide testing is essential to monitoring the spread of the virus. According to Statista, “As of July 1, 2020, The United States had performed the eighth most COVID-19 tests per one million population among the countries most severely impacted by the pandemic. The U.S. has conducted almost 34.2 million COVID-19 tests.” Many cities across the U.S. have testing facilities available for individuals who would like to get tested regardless of age or symptoms. The U.S. also provides antibody testing in many areas.

Advanced healthcare:

According to The Commonwealth Fund, the U.S. spent 16.9% of GDP on healthcare. One major reason for the high percentage listed is the cost of advancing healthcare technology. The U.S. is on the cutting edge of medical technology and pharmaceutical science and provides many preventative care services not found elsewhere in the world. Near the beginning of the pandemic, the FDA and HHS worked to increase access and availability of ventilators, respiratory devices, medications for the treatment of Covid-19, and testing supplies to hospitals across the U.S.

Access to Covid-19 treatment:

The U.S. has just secured the only drug, Remdesivir, with FDA emergency authorization to treat Covid-19. Reports from CNN state that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), is to receive all of the drug-maker, Gilead’s, projected July supply of Remdesivir and most of August and September’s supply as well.

Why immigration through the EB-5 Program:

The EB-5 Program gives qualifying foreign nationals, their spouses, and their unmarried children under the age of 21 years, green cards if they invest minimum of $900,000 into a job-creating U.S. new commercial enterprise.

Unlike other U.S. visa programs, the EB-5 Program gives its investors and their immediate family members the freedom to live, work, study and travel anywhere in the U.S. In order to qualify, a foreign national must invest funds (Note: these funds can come from a variety of sources including employment earnings, sale of assets, gifts, inheritance, or more), in an at-risk project that creates 10 full-time jobs for U.S. workers. The foreign national must be able to provide evidence showing that their funds came from lawful sources.

Foreign nationals may invest in a direct EB-5 project and manage the business themselves, or they may take on a more passive role such as a policy-maker and invest in what’s called a Regional Center project. Regional Center projects have the added benefit of being able to count indirect and induced job creation to more easily fulfill one of the main EB-5 Program requirements and getting their investors one step closer to obtaining unconditional permanent residency in the U.S. (green card status).
