USCIS has announced its aim to decrease processing times for EB-5 I-485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status.
EB-5 investors residing in the United States file I-485 applications to adjust their status to green card status.
For the last few years, I-485 Application processing times have slowed due to a higher than expected volume of applications in FY 2016 and 2017. USCIS states that the influx in applications did not affect their offices equally and that certain offices suffered much higher than expected processing times.
As a result, USCIS has announced that they are going to shift caseloads so that disparity is fixed. Here’s what I-485 applicants need to know:
- Applicants may be scheduled to appear for an interview at an office outside of their normal jurisdiction
- Applicants may receive notices such as Requests for Evidence from an office outside of their normal jurisdiction
- These changes will not affect where applicants go to attend their biometrics appointments
- Follow all instructions carefully on any notice from USCIS
By shifting caseloads to less impacted offices USCIS expects to significantly decrease I-485 Application processing times.
